Reflecting On 2016

Initially whenever anyone asked how my year went, I said it was crazy! I acknowledged that great things came from the craziness, but I was very eager to leave 2016 behind and leap into 2017. Until a couple weeks ago…

A couple weeks ago we had an amazing FemCity meeting here in Atlanta. (If you live in Atlanta and haven’t been, you definitely need to come. Check out deets on membership and upcoming events here.) During our meeting, with the theme Gratitude and Giving, we each made a list of all of the awesome things that happened in 2016. When I started on mine, I couldn’t believe all of the amazing things that happened for me personally and within my business!

I’ve since changed my tune on how I view this year. This year was a huge year of growth, yes, and definitely a lot of transitions…but overall it was my best year yet for my business! I’d like to share some of my breakthroughs and accomplishments with you and I encourage you to do the same for yourself. Especially if this year was a rough one for you.

What I learned in 2016…

You have to be willing to bet on yourself.

I left my part-time job and stopped doing part-time freelancing gigs to fully focus on my business. I took a complete leap of faith which resulted in me taking a huge loss in the 3rd quarter. No, I didn’t have money saved up, but I did have a plan and a great support system to help break the fall. And I’m so glad I followed my intuition.

Things are good now, as in I’m able to fully sustain myself on a lean budget while I pay down debt & build my savings, good. I would not be where I am, or in a position to meet my 2017 goals, had I not been willing to bet on myself. Many times we wait on someone else to believe in what we’re doing, when the person you really need to believe in you is YOU.

You really are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.

Since I’ve been in business I have always worked from home. But, working from home got old and I was beginning to feel lonely and disconnected from the world. In July, I made the decision to join a local co-working space here in Atlanta called NEX Atlanta. Hands down BEST decision ever! I love going to the office everyday and being surrounded by other entrepreneurs also working hard to be of service through their businesses. The energy is great and everyone is so supportive of one another.

As a result of working at NEX, I am more productive, more confident, and have made some amazing friends. Working alongside other like-minded people really keeps me motivated and inspired. I highly recommend finding a co-working space as an alternative to working from home.

I also joined an accountability group that meets twice a month. Second best decision this year, for similar reasons. We keep each other on track, support one another, and share tips & resources. I absolutely LOVE this group of women! They all rock!

Following your intuition is no guarantee that things will be perfect, but they will end perfectly.

I had to make a lot of decisions this year that were not easy. They weren’t easy because I had no idea how things were going to turn out. The only thing I had to stand on was what was in my heart and spirit. That’s it. And with the hardest decisions came an initial rough period. But as I leaned on my faith and trusted, everything came together perfectly. I used to think that following God’s instructions guaranteed that everything would be perfect. I thought that if things didn’t go right, that meant I was doing something wrong. Not true. I believe that God allows us to experience some things to not only strengthen our faith but to also test our faithfulness to the journey ahead.

By following my intuition, and persevering through the subsequent rough patches, so many opportunities presented themselves to me. I joined the board of FemCity Atlanta as their Vice President. I had several speaking engagements, including sitting on a panel discussing work/life balance at General Assembly in November. I was invited to be the lead coach of a business incubator. I also received the opportunity to hire an assistant and begin working with a coach!

So many beautiful blessings have come into my life, and I’m grateful for the journey this year. I’m excited to see what’s in store for 2017!

In preparing for the new year, I always take the time to reflect over the old year and release anything that is no longer supportive of my highest good. I usually do a ritual where I write everything down that I want to let go and I burn it to symbolize my commitment to releasing the old to make room for the new.

This year, I’d like to invite you to join me!

I’ll be hosting a Burning Bowl Ceremony this Wednesday, December 28th at NEX Atlanta.

During this burning bowl ceremony we will:

*reflect on 2016;

*share our goals for 2017;

*conduct a clearing ritual to release all old beliefs, habits, ways of thinking and being that no longer support us;

*talk about Mercury in Retrograde (which begins December 19th and ends January 8th); and,

*discuss tools to support you in further clearing as you move into the New Year!

If you’re in Atlanta, I’d love to see you there! Click here to register: bit.ly/burningbowl2016
